I find something very sensual about this painting. Samson’s large back exposed and highlighted by shadows, his head resting peacefully on Delilah’s lap, her bare breast, her hand placed gently on one broad shoulder. The sweet intimacy of their moment constrasts with the vouyeristic feel brought on by the soldiers waiting outside the door, the ill intent of a culprit’s scissors and Delilah’s treason.
